Limitations to know before you rely on it
A browser-based number is flexible, but it is not a drop-in replacement for a SIM in every situation:
- Not in your native apps. SMS and calls appear in the PhoneBorn dashboard, not in your phone's Messages or Phone app. There is no automatic SMS forwarding to your handset's inbox.
- Internet required. No connection means no dashboard. Messages still arrive and wait in your inbox until you log back in.
- Not for emergency calls. Keep a regular SIM or landline for emergency services.
- Fair-use allowances. Plans include 500 outgoing SMS and 1,000 outgoing minutes a month; bulk or marketing messaging is prohibited under the acceptable use policy.
- OTP numbers are receive-only. A single-use OTP number takes one code and cannot send texts or make calls.
