How it works
Three ways to make a number temporary
"Temporary" is not a special kind of number. It is a real mobile number held for a set period. PhoneBorn offers three lengths, each ending differently:
- Single-use OTP number. Pick a service and country, receive one code, and the order closes (default window: 20 minutes). If no code arrives, your wallet is refunded automatically. It cannot send texts or call.
- 1-month plan you let lapse. 30 days with incoming SMS, outgoing SMS and calling minutes. Leave auto-renew off and it expires; after a 3-day grace period it is released.

The re-verification trap
The most common regret with temporary numbers is lockout, not privacy. Many apps treat your number as a recovery key and may send a code again weeks later — after a new-device login, a password reset or a security check.
If the number is gone, that code goes nowhere, and the app's own account recovery can be slow or fail.
A quick test before choosing a single-use code:
- Will you log in again from a different device? Then the account will probably ask for the number again.
- Does the account hold money, purchases or anything you'd miss? Use a number you keep.
- Is SMS the only second factor? Add an authenticator app or backup codes where offered, or keep the number.

What happens when a temporary number is recycled
Released numbers are eventually given to someone else — number recycling, at carriers and online providers alike.

- Codes sent to the old number may reach the next holder. Any account still linked to it could send them a login or reset code.

How long does a temporary phone number last?

Can I get a temporary number for just one verification code?
Yes. An OTP number is exactly that: one number, one service, one code. If no code arrives in the window, it is refunded to your wallet automatically. The account may ask to verify that number again later, and you won't have it.
Can I keep my temporary number if I change my mind?
