That transparency is why developers and QA teams like it: you can see what is available before you spend anything, and the API mirrors the same data. The catalogue is large — 5SIM says numbers originate from around 180 countries — and its own site is clear that the service does not support outgoing SMS or calls.

SMSPVA is more of a curated shop. It covers fewer countries (60+, according to its homepage) and puts more weight on rentals, advertised for "days, weeks or even months". Its site also says its catalogue mixes numbers from real SIM cards with VoIP numbers, and it highlights card payments alongside crypto. For someone who wants one number for a few weeks rather than hundreds of one-off codes, that model can be more convenient.

Neither approach is "better" in the abstract. Coverage and operator choice favour 5SIM; rental length and card top-ups favour SMSPVA.

With any activation service, the number you receive has to pass the app's own checks. Many sign-up flows look up the line type — mobile, landline or VoIP — and some refuse anything that is not mobile. That is why operator choice (5SIM) and "real SIM" labelling (SMSPVA) matter: they are both ways of steering you toward numbers the app is more likely to accept.
